Who’s The New Guy – EP061

Who’s the new guy in the band? In this episode, we take a look at replacement players who have impacted the bands they joined in an awesome way.

Hey, I went to my job today and some new guy was there doing it. Who’s the new guy? WTF? Have I been fired? Oh wait, I left because quite frankly I can’t stand the rest of the guys in this band.

With the music industry changing rapidly each and every day, free agency is at an all-time high. One way musicians make a living nowadays is to play in 50 bands at the same time and stay out there on the road. Musicians switch bands like a pack of 8 year-olds playing musical chairs at the popular kid’s birthday party. So in today’s episode, Sonny and I talk about just a few of our favorite replacement players who have contributed some good work with bands we love.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind we are going to make some controversial statements in this episode, but it’s only our preferences and opinions and we encourage you to voice yours. Go to our Facebook page and start the conversation, and I am sure we will chime in.

***RECORDING NOTE*** This is a lost episode and was recorded in the summer of 2017. Enjoy the GUR vaults!!

  1. Great episode guys!!!! Just finished it. Tons of ways ,replacements, you could have picked. You guys narrowed it down to some good/significant ones. I like the Nicco Clive one. Love both, but if I had to pick, it would be Clive. I just prefer the Dianno era just a hair more. Early Maiden brought this street type raw punk vibe to their music. It came across like a middle finger to the face and a mean kick to the groin. Clive would attack his Tom Tom’s a little more where as other drummers would normally use their snare or ride a cymbal in certain situations. Just have his playing a very unique feel. But after I heard you guys play Where Eagles Dare, I got some chills!!! Piece Of Mind Is Maiden Classic.
I think Steve ‘s vision of the band musically did not include the stylings of Paul and Clive. Just different players. And obviously worked out very well. Maiden is a “global” band and that can’t be said about many . Thanks again guys for your great work. Top notch as always

    1. Hey Scott – Thanks for listening!!. Your thoughts are well thought out. I love the Dianno era myself, but Sonny is much more a Dickinson fan. Truthfully I am a Maiden fan around Killers / NOTB, Piece Of Mind, Powerslave. – Feel free to come share your thoughts, and leave us a review either at Podchaser or Facebook
