This Ain’t No Disco ’89 – EP044

It’s time for another episode of This Ain’t No Disco, and this episode we are talking and rocking all things happening in 1989.

Rock n Pod 2 VIP contributor Jason Kearney joins Steven and Hollywood for another episode of “This Ain’t No Disco.”  Jason picked the year 1989 to feature some great albums released and pick several great tracks to play. We talk to Jason about why ‘89 meant so much to him when he was growing up. Sonny and Steven try to search their failing memories to figure out exactly what they were doing in ‘89. Jason, Steven, and Sonny have a great time hanging out, talking rock n roll, and discussing some of the events, music, movies, and television that captured the attention of the world in 1989.

  1. Just listened to my first podcast from Growin’ up Rock and enjoyed very much. Great commentary, discussion, thoughts from the guys on that era. This is just my opinion and feelings, but I have never been a big fan of the mid to late 80’s hard rock scene. My view it just became to commercialized, “hair metal” watered down ,cliche” and a lot of those bands were a dime a dozen with no substance. There are a few that stood out among the many, but that was probably a handful for me. The best was saved for last. Badlands first release is excellent top to bottom. Raw, rocking, aggressive , hungry and top notch performances from the band. Jake E Lee and Ray Gillen are the standouts of course. Ray’s powerful vocal’s with a blues swagger and Jakes playing is just superb. I always loved his tone. Very natural with not a lot of effects for the most part. The guy is a talent.

    1. Hey Scott – Thanks for listening – Totally get what you are talking about, but still think there was tons of great music even from some of the so called commercialized bands. That’s all good about music – like what you like and don’t listen to what you don’t like. We happen to also love Badlands here at Growin’ Up Rock. – Scott make sure you go over to our Facebook page @growinuprock and follow us – We have conversations all the time regarding episodes and rock n roll we are digging.
