Typically on Growin’ Up Rock, we are all about the music and the artists who create it, but in this episode we take our show on the road and head to Nashville for Summer NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) industry event to learn more about what’s happening in the business of music.
At the show, we have quick chats with producer/engineer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Halestorm, Foo Fighters) and Living Colour bassist Doug Wimbish. Then marketing manager Matt Brown at EVH guitars gives us the story behind Eddie Van Halen’s Eruption ’78 series guitar packages. We run into Decibel Geek Alumni, Toddzilla and attend concerts with Poison, Cheap Trick, Pop Evil, and Thee Rock n Roll Residency while hanging out with our friends at The Decibel Geek.
The NAMM show (National Association of Music Merchants) happens twice a year and isn’t open to the public. The expo area showcases the latest tools and instruments on the market so that merchants can place their orders to get the stuff in their stores for musicians to purchase. So while the event is restricted to music industry insiders, the bonus of this is that often there are artist walking around taking a look at the latest products or demoing equipment.
